13th POST-WAR and CONTEMPORARY ART SALE
The Judit Virág Gallery’s contemporary auction presents outstanding works of Hungarian post-war art. This powerful 1959 piece by Judit Reigl, whose centenary exhibition is currently on display at the Műcsarnok, is a representative element of the Tömbírás (Mass Writing) series, which comprises thick daubs of red and black paint.
Ilona Keserü’s distinctive work was created in 1985, based on contrasting areas of orange, purple and pink, The title Utókép (Afterimage) 5, refers both to the optical phenomenon and to the way the Sun is interpreted in ancient, oriental and cultures and religions.
The characteristic sponge cake motifs of János Fajó’s appear in his oeuvre from 1971. Now up for auction, these red, blue, yellow and pink sponge cakes are one of the highlights of Fajó’s series from the 1970s.
The auction lots include masterpieces by Imre Bak, István Nádler, Endre Rozsda and El Kazovsky.
