Berlin – Budapest 1919-1933

2016-10-25

From the second half of the 19th century, Europe opened its doors to Hungarian artists. At the beginning, they tended to go to Munich for their education or to observe the newest trends. However, from the 20th century, this role was taken over by Paris, Berlin and later Rome. The first part of the highly-successful Berlin-Budapest exhibition explored the relationship between the Hungarian avant-garde and Berlin, the cultural centre during the 1920’s. Since this period of time is relatively well researched through the oeuvres, the Berlin-Budapest exhibition primarily focused on the artists’ networks and relationships, which also fits into the international trends on researching this period. The exhibition featured 148 artworks; but the exhibition album included additional pictures as well. The next exhibition in this series held in 2017 will focus on Paris.

The exhibition won the Opus Mirabile award in 2016.
